but I knew that thou always hearest me; but on account of the crowd who stand around I have said [ergänzt: it], that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

περιεστῶτα periestōta “already standing around”

And when he was come, the Jews who were come down from Jerusalem stood round, bringing many and grievous charges which they were not able to prove:

περιέστησαν periestēsan “they stood around”

But profane, vain babblings shun, for they will advance to greater impiety,

περιΐστασο· periistaso “do yourself avoid;”

But foolish questions, and genealogies, and strifes, and contentions about the law, shun; for they are unprofitable and vain.
