The women of my people ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their young children ye take away my glory for ever.

תַּֽעֲנֻגֶ֑יהָ (הָ) ha “her”עֹֽלָלֶ֔יהָ (הָ) ha “her”

The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet they lean upon Jehovah, and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us.

רָאשֶׁ֣יהָ׀ (הָ) ha “its”וְכֹהֲנֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”וּנְבִיאֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our border.

בִּפְתָחֶ֑יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

עֲשִׁירֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I may make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: and ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

וְיֹשְׁבֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”

For the son dishonoreth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

בְאִמָּ֔הּ (הּ) h “her”בַּחֲמֹתָ֑הּ (הּ) h “her”

Yet shall the land be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.

יֹֽשְׁבֶ֑יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

But with an over-running flood he will make a full end of her place, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.

מְקוֹמָ֑הּ (הּ) h “its”

He remembereth his nobles: they stumble in their march; they make haste to the wall thereof, and the mantelet is prepared.

חֽוֹמָתָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

And it is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her handmaids moan as with the voice of doves, beating upon their breasts.

וְאַמְהֹתֶ֗יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions; and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

רִכְבָּ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.

כֻּלָּ֗הּ (הּ) h “it”

because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

בִּזְנוּנֶ֔יהָ (הָ) ha “her”בִּכְשָׁפֶֽיהָ׃ (הָ) ha “her”

Art thou better than No-amon, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about her; whose rampart was the sea, [ergänzt: and] her wall was of the sea?

חוֹמָתָֽהּ׃ (הּ) h “its”

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

עָצְמָ֛ה (ה) h “its”

Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity; her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

עֹלָלֶ֛יהָ (הָ) ha “its”גְּדוֹלֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

And herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the pelican and the porcupine shall lodge in the capitals thereof; [ergänzt: their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar-work.

בְתוֹכָ֤הּ (הּ) h “it”בְּכַפְתֹּרֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

This is the joyous city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none besides me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.

בִּלְבָבָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.

אֱלֹהֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing till the morrow.

שָׂרֶ֣יהָ (הָ) ha “its”בְקִרְבָּ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

Her prophets are light and treacherous persons; her priests have profaned the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

נְבִיאֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”כֹּהֲנֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”

Jehovah in the midst of her is righteous; he will not do iniquity; every morning doth he bring his justice to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

בְּקִרְבָּ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

I said, Only fear thou me; receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, [ergänzt: according to] all that I have appointed concerning her: but they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

מְעוֹנָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

יְבוּלָֽהּ׃ (הּ) h “its”

and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

וְרֹ֣כְבֶ֔יהָ (הָ) ha “its”
