For thus hath Jehovah said unto me: Like as the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, is not afraid of their voice, nor giveth way before the multitude of them; so will Jehovah of hosts come down to war upon mount Zion, and on the hill thereof.

גִּבְעָתָֽהּ׃ (הּ) h “its”

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye peoples: let the earth hear, and all its fulness; the world, and all that cometh forth of it.

וּמְלֹאָ֔הּ (הּ) h “it”צֶאֱצָאֶֽיהָ׃ (הָ) ha “its”

And the torrents thereof shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone; yea, the land thereof shall become burning pitch:

נְחָלֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”וַעֲפָרָ֖הּ (הּ) h “its”אַרְצָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

it shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

עֲשָׁנָ֑הּ (הּ) h “its”

Of her nobles who should proclaim the kingdom, none are there; and all her princes shall be nought.

חֹרֶ֥יהָ (הָ) ha “its”שָׂרֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in her fortresses; and it shall be a dwelling-place of wild dogs, a court for ostriches.

אַרְמְנֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ (הָ֙) ha “its”בְּמִבְצָרֶ֑יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

There shall the arrow-snake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow; there also shall the vultures be gathered one with another.

בְצִלָּ֑הּ (הּ) h “its”רְעוּתָֽהּ׃ (הּ) h “its”

Search ye in the book of Jehovah and read: not one of these shall fail, one shall not have to seek for the other; for my mouth, it hath commanded, and his Spirit, it hath gathered them.

And the mirage shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of wild dogs, where they lay down, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

רִבְצָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”

Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her time of suffering is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

צְבָאָ֔הּ (הּ) h “its”עֲוֹנָ֑הּ (הּ) h “its”חַטֹּאתֶֽיהָ׃ (הָ) ha “its”

[ergänzt: It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a gauze curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;

וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

-- thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from the extremities thereof, and to whom I said, Thou art my servant, I have chosen thee and not rejected thee,

וּמֵאֲצִילֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

Thus saith God, Jehovah, he that created the heavens and stretched them out, he that spread forth the earth and its productions, he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

וְצֶאֱצָאֶ֑יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

that confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built up, and I will raise up their ruins;

וְחָרְבוֹתֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

-- that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the going down, that there is none beside me. I [ergänzt: am] Jehovah, and there is none else;

וּמִמַּ֣עֲרָבָ֔ה (ה) h “its”

and thou saidst, I shall be a mistress for ever; so that thou didst not take these things to heart, thou didst not remember the end thereof.

אַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃ (הּ) h “its”

And now hear this, thou voluptuous one, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thy heart, It is I, and there is none but me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know loss of children:

בִּלְבָ֔בָהּ (הּ) h “her”

But evil shall come upon thee -- thou shalt not know from whence it riseth; and mischief shall fall upon thee, which thou shalt not be able to ward off; and desolation that thou suspectest not shall come upon thee suddenly.

שַׁחְרָ֔הּ (הּ) h “it”

Thou heardest, see all this; -- and ye, will not ye declare [ergänzt: it]? I have caused thee to hear new things from this time, and things hidden, and that thou knewest not:

כֻּלָּ֔הּ (הּ) h “it”

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Even these forget, but I will not forget thee.

עוּלָ֔הּ (הּ) h “her”בִּטְנָ֑הּ (הּ) h “her”

For Jehovah shall comfort Zion, he shall comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah: gladness and joy shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of song.

חָרְבֹתֶ֔יהָ (הָ) ha “its”מִדְבָּרָהּ֙ (הּ֙) h “its”וְעַרְבָתָ֖הּ (הּ) h “its”

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look on the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall grow old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner; but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ (הָ) ha “its”

-- there is none to guide her among all the children that she hath brought forth; neither is there any to take her by the hand of all the children that she hath brought up.

בְּיָדָ֔הּ (הּ) h “her”

-- Depart, depart, go out from thence, touch not what is unclean; go out of the midst of her, be ye clean, that bear the vessels of Jehovah.

מִתּוֹכָ֔הּ (הּ) h “it”

The little one shall become a thousand, and the smallest a mighty nation: I, Jehovah, will hasten it in its time.
