Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant;

הַיָּ֖ם (הַ) hai. “the”

and the sea-coast shall be cave-dwellings for shepherds, and folds for flocks.

הַיָּ֗ם (הַ) hai. “the”

Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and all the isles of the nations shall worship him, every one from his place.

הָאָ֑רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ (הַ) ha. “the”

This is the rejoicing city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become a desolation, a couching-place for beasts! Every one that passeth by her shall hiss, shall wave his hand.

הָעִ֤יר (הָ) ha. “[is] the”הָעַלִּיזָה֙ (הָ) ha. “<the>”הַיּוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת (הַ) hai. “which”הָאֹֽמְרָה֙ (הָ) ha. “which”

Woe to her that is rebellious and corrupted, to the oppressing city!

הָעִ֖יר (הָ) ha. “the”הַיּוֹנָֽה׃ (הַ) hai. “which”

Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to assemble the nations, that I may gather the kingdoms together, to pour upon them mine indignation, -- all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (הָ) ha. “the”

In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that exult in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.

In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear not; Zion, let not thy hands be slack.

Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save her that halted, and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and a name in all the lands where they have been put to shame.

At that time will I bring you, yea, at the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I shall turn again your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah.

In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (הַ) ha. “the”הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַנָּבִ֗יא (הַ) ha. “the”הַכֹּהֵ֥ן (הַ) ha. “the”הַגָּד֖וֹל (הַ) ha. “<the>”

Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that Jehovah's house should be built.

הָעָ֤ם (הָ) ha. “the”הַזֶּה֙ (הַ) ha. “<the>”

And the word of Jehovah came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

הַנָּבִ֖יא (הַ) ha. “the”

Is it time for you that ye should dwell in your wainscoted houses, while this house lieth waste?

וְהַבַּ֥יִת (הַ) ha. “the”הַזֶּ֖ה (הַ) ha. “<the>”

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but are not satisfied; ye drink, but are not filled with drink; ye clothe yourselves, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes.

וְהַ֨מִּשְׂתַּכֵּ֔ר (הַ֨) Ha “the”

Go up to the mountain and bring wood, and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.

הָהָ֛ר (הָ) ha. “the”הַבָּ֑יִת (הַ) ha. “the”

Ye looked for much, and behold it was little; and when ye brought it home, I blew upon it. Wherefore? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, whilst ye run every man to his own house.

הַבַּ֖יִת (הַ) ha. “the”

Therefore over you the heavens withhold their dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

וְהָאָ֖רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”

And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon man, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

הָאָ֣רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”הֶהָרִ֗ים (הֶ) he. “the”הַדָּגָן֙ (הַ) ha. “the”הַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ (הַ) ha. “the”הַיִּצְהָ֔ר (הַ) hai. “the”הָאֲדָמָ֑ה (הָ) ha. “the”הָֽאָדָם֙ (הָֽ) ha. “<the>”הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה (הַ) ha. “the”

And Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, according as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people feared before Jehovah.

הַכֹּהֵ֨ן (הַ) ha. “the”הַגָּד֜וֹל (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָעָ֗ם (הָ) ha. “the”הַנָּבִ֔יא (הַ) ha. “the”הָעָ֖ם (הָ) ha. “the”

And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked at the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,

הַכֹּהֵ֣ן (הַ) ha. “the”הַגָּד֔וֹל (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָעָ֑ם (הָ) ha. “the”

in the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (הַ) ha. “the”

In the seventh [ergänzt: month], on the one and twentieth [ergänzt: day] of the month, came the word of Jehovah by the prophet Haggai, saying,

הַנָּבִ֖יא (הַ) ha. “the”

Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

הַכֹּהֵ֣ן (הַ) ha. “the”הַגָּד֑וֹל (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָעָ֖ם (הָ) ha. “the”

Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes?

הַנִּשְׁאָ֔ר (הַ) ha. “[is] the”הַבַּ֣יִת (הַ) ha. “the”הַזֶּ֔ה (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן (הָ) ha. “<the>”
