And Saul answered and said: 'Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou to me after this manner?'

הֲל֨וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said: 'Is it not that the LORD hath anointed thee to be prince over His inheritance?

הֲל֗וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another: 'What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?'

הֲגַ֥ם (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And one of the same place answered and said: 'And who is their father?' Therefore it became a proverb: 'Is Saul also among the prophets?'

הֲגַ֥ם (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Therefore they asked of the LORD further: 'Is there yet a man come hither?' And the LORD answered: 'Behold, he hath hid himself among the baggage.'

הֲבָ֥א (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And Samuel said to all the people: 'See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?' And all the people shouted, and said: 'Long live the king.'

הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ (הַ) ha. “¿”

Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto the LORD, that He may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.'

הֲל֤וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And Saul asked counsel of God: 'Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt Thou deliver them into the hand of Israel?' But He answered him not that day.

הַֽאֵרֵד֙ (הַֽ) ha. “¿”הֲתִתְּנֵ֖ם (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And the people said unto Saul: 'Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far from it; as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day.' So the people rescued J

הֲֽיוֹנָתָ֤ן׀ (הֲֽ) ha “¿”

And Samuel said: 'Though thou be little in thine own sight, art thou not head of the tribes of Israel? And the LORD anointed thee king over Israel;

הֲל֗וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And Samuel said: 'Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in hearkening to the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

הַחֵ֤פֶץ (הַ) ha. “¿”

And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Are here all thy children?' And he said: 'There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep.' And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come hither.'

הֲתַ֣מּוּ (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them: 'Why do ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.

הֲל֧וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And the men of Israel said: 'Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to taunt Israel is he come up; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's hou

הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ (הַ) ha. “¿”

And David said: 'What have I now done? Was it not but a word?'

הֲל֖וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And the Philistine said unto David: 'Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?' And the Philistine cursed David by his god.

הֲכֶ֣לֶב (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said: 'Seemeth it to you a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?'

הַֽנְקַלָּ֤ה (הַֽ) ha “¿”

And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say: 'Is Saul also among the prophets?'

הֲגַ֥ם (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him: 'Thou son of perverse rebellion, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and unto the shame of thy mother's nakedness?

And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said: `Is not the arrow beyond thee?'

הֲל֥וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

And the servants of Achish said unto him: 'Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying: Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?'

הֲלוֹא־ (הֲ) ha. “¿”הֲל֣וֹא (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Do I lack madmen, that ye have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?'

הֲזֶ֖ה (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying: 'Shall I go and smite these Philistines?' And the LORD said unto David: 'Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.'

הַאֵלֵ֣ךְ (הַ) ha. “¿”

Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as Thy servant hath heard?' O LORD, the God of Israel, I beseech Thee, tell Thy servant.' And the LORD said: 'He will come down.'

הֲיַסְגִּרֻ֣נִי (הֲ) ha. “¿”הֲיֵרֵ֣ד (הֲ) ha. “¿”

Then said David: 'Will the men of Keilah deliver up me and my men into the hand of Saul?' And the LORD said: 'They will deliver thee up.'
