The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; and I will deliver up the city with all that is therein.

וְאַרְמְנֹתָ֖יו (וְ) ve. “and”וּמְלֹאָֽהּ׃ (וּ) u. “and”

And a man's uncle, and he that should burn him, shall take him up to bring out the bones from the house, and shall say unto him that is in the inner parts of the house, Is there yet [ergänzt: any] with thee? and he shall say, None. And he will say, Silence! for we may not make mention of Jehovah's name.

וּמְסָרְפ֗וֹ (וּ) u. “and”

For behold, Jehovah commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

וְהַבַּ֥יִת (וְ) ve. “and”

Shall horses run upon the rock? will [ergänzt: men] plough [ergänzt: thereon] with oxen? For ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

וּפְרִ֥י (וּ) u. “and”

Thus did the Lord Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth, and behold, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

וְהִנֵּה֙ (וְ) ve. “and”וְהִ֨נֵּה־ (וְ) ve. “and”

Thus did the Lord Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, the Lord Jehovah called to contend by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and ate up the inheritance.

וְהִנֵּ֥ה (וְ) ve. “and”

Thus did he shew unto me; and behold, the Lord stood upon a wall [ergänzt: made] by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.

וְהִנֵּ֧ה (וְ) ve. “and”וּבְיָד֖וֹ (וּ) u. “and”

And the high places of Isaac shall be desolated, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will arise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

וּמִקְדְּשֵׁ֥י (וּ) u. “and”

For thus Amos saith: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall certainly go into captivity out of his land.

וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל (וְ) ve. “and”

And Amaziah said unto Amos, [ergänzt: Thou] seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there.

וֶאֱכָל־ (וֶ) ve. “and”וְשָׁ֖ם (וְ) ve. “and”

But prophesy not again any more at Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is the house of the kingdom.

And Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit.

And now hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and utter not [ergänzt: words] against the house of Isaac.

וְעַתָּ֖ה (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided with the line; and thou shalt die in a land that is unclean; and Israel shall certainly go into captivity, out of his land.

וּבָנֶ֤יךָ (וּ) u. “and”וּבְנֹתֶ֙יךָ֙ (וּ) u. “and”וְאַדְמָתְךָ֖ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאַתָּ֗ה (וְ) ve. “and”וְיִ֨שְׂרָאֵ֔ל (וְ) ve. “and”

Thus did Jehovah shew unto me; and behold, a basket of summer-fruit.

וְהִנֵּ֖ה (וְ) ve. “and”

Hear this, ye that pant after the needy, even to cause to fail the poor of the land,

וְלַשְׁבִּ֖ית (וְ) ve. “and”

saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat? making the ephah small and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances for deceit:

וְנַשְׁבִּ֣ירָה (וְ) ve. “so”וְהַשַּׁבָּ֖ת (וְ) ve. “and”וְנִפְתְּחָה־ (וְ) ve. “so”וּלְהַגְדִּ֣יל (וּ) u. “and”וּלְעַוֵּ֖ת (וּ) u. “and”

that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; and that we may sell the refuse of the wheat.

וְאֶבְי֖וֹן (וְ) ve. “and”וּמַפַּ֥ל (וּ) u. “and”

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only [ergänzt: son], and the end thereof as a bitter day.

וְכָל־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְעַל־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ (וְ) ve. “and”

Behold, days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I will send a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah.

וְלֹֽא־ (וְ) ve. “and”

And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.

וּמִצָּפ֖וֹן (וּ) u. “and”וְעַד־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

In that day shall the fair virgins and the young men faint for thirst;

וְהַבַּחוּרִ֖ים (וְ) ve. “and”

they that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, [ergänzt: As] thy god, O Dan, liveth! and, [ergänzt: As] the way of Beer-sheba liveth! even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

וְחֵ֖י (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹא־ (וְ) ve. “and”

I saw the Lord standing upon the altar; and he said, Smite the chapiter that the thresholds may shake; and break all of them in pieces, in the head; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not get away by flight, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.

וְיִרְעֲשׁ֣וּ (וְ) ve. “so”וּבְצַ֙עַם֙ (וּ) u. “and”וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹֽא־ (וְ) ve. “and”

Though they dig into Sheol, thence shall my hand take them; and though they climb up to the heavens, thence will I bring them down;
