them will I give into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of them that seek their life; and their carcases shall be food for the fowl of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.

וּבְיַ֖ד (וּ) u. “and”וּלְבֶהֱמַ֥ת (וּ) u. “and”

And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which are gone up from you.

וְאֶת־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאֶת־ (וְ) ve. “and”וּבְיַ֖ד (וּ) u. “and”וּבְיַד (וּ) u. “and”

Behold, I command, saith Jehovah, and I will cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

וְאֶת־ (וְ) ve. “and”

And I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites,

וְאֶת־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאֶת־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאֵ֖ת (וְ) ve. “and”

And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink wine.

וְכֹס֑וֹת (וְ) ve. “and”

And they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, ye nor your sons for ever;

וּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם (וּ) u. “and”

neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor shall ye have [ergänzt: any]; but all your days ye shall dwell in tents, that ye may live many days in the land where ye sojourn.

וּבַ֣יִת (וּ) u. “and”וְזֶ֤רַע (וְ) ve. “and”וְכֶ֣רֶם (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

And we have hearkened unto the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters,

וּבְנֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (וּ) u. “and”

and not to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed;

וּלְבִלְתִּ֛י (וּ) u. “and”וְכֶ֧רֶם (וְ) ve. “and”וְשָׂדֶ֛ה (וְ) ve. “and”וָזֶ֖רַע (וָ) va. “and”

And it came to pass when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come and let us go into Jerusalem because of the army of the Chaldeans, and because of the army of Syria; and we dwell at Jerusalem.

וְנָב֣וֹא (וְ) ve. “so”וּמִפְּנֵ֖י (וּ) u. “and”

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Go and say to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken unto my words? saith Jehovah.

וּלְיֽוֹשְׁבֵ֖י (וּ) u. “and”

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they have drunk none, for they have obeyed their father's commandment. But I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking, and ye have not hearkened unto me.

וְלֹ֤א (וְ) ve. “and”וְאָ֨נֹכִ֜י (וְ) ve. “and”וְדַבֵּ֔ר (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

And I have sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them; and ye shall dwell in the land that I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear nor hearkened unto me.

וְשָׁלֹ֣חַ׀ (וְ) ve. “and”וְהֵיטִ֣יבוּ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאַל־ (וְ) ve. “and”וּשְׁבוּ֙ (וּ) u. “and”וְלַאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֤א (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

Yea, the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people hath not hearkened unto me;

וְהָעָ֣ם (וְ) ve. “and”

therefore thus saith Jehovah the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken unto them, but they have not hearkened, and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

וְאֶ֤ל (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֣א (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his injunctions, and have done according unto all that he hath commanded you;

וּלְבֵ֨ית (וּ) u. “and”

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.

וְעַל־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְעַל־ (וְ) ve. “and”וְעַ֖ד (וְ) ve. “and”

It may be the house of Judah will hear all the evil that I purpose to do unto them, that they may return every man from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

וּלְחַטָּאתָֽם׃ (וּ) u. “and”

and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in the house of Jehovah upon the fast day; and thou shalt also read them in the ears of all Judah that come from their cities.

וְגַ֨ם (וְ) ve. “and”

It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and that they will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath pronounced against this people.

וְיָשֻׁ֕בוּ (וְ) ve. “so”וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ה (וְ) ve. “and”

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, in the ninth month, [ergänzt: that] they proclaimed a fast before Jehovah, for all the people in Jerusalem, and for all the people that came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

and he went down to the king's house, into the scribe's chamber, and behold, all the princes were sitting there: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

וְהִ֨נֵּה־ (וְ) ve. “and”וּדְלָיָ֣הוּ (וּ) u. “and”וְאֶלְנָתָ֨ן (וְ) ve. “and”וּגְמַרְיָ֧הוּ (וּ) u. “and”וְצִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ (וְ) ve. “and”וְכָל־ (וְ) ve. “and”

And all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll in which thou hast read in the ears of the people, and come. And Baruch the son of Nerijah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

וָלֵ֑ךְ (וָ) va. “and”

And they said unto him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. And Baruch read [ergänzt: it] in their ears.

וּקְרָאֶ֖נָּה (וּ) u. “and”

And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words from his mouth?
