But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eyes shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.

וְאִם֙ (וְ) ve. “and”וְדָמֹ֨עַ (וְ) ve. “and”וְתֵרַ֤ד (וְ) ve. “and”

Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother: 'Sit ye down low; for your headtires are come down, even your beautiful crown.'

וְלַגְּבִירָ֖ה (וְ) ve. “and”

The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them; Judah is carried away captive all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

וְאֵ֣ין (וְ) ve. “and”

Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

וּרְא֔וּ (וּ) u. “and”

What wilt thou say, when He shall set the friends over thee as head, whom thou thyself hast trained against thee? Shall not pangs take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?

וְ֠אַתְּ (וְ֠) Ve. “and”

And if thou say in thy heart: 'Wherefore are these things befallen me?' --for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

וְכִ֤י (וְ) ve. “and”

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

וְנָמֵ֖ר (וְ) ve. “and”

Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

וַאֲפִיצֵ֖ם (וַ) va. “and”

Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.

וְגַם־ (וְ) ve. “and”

Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy harlotry, on the hills in the field have I seen thy detestable acts. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean! When shall it ever be?

וּמִצְהֲלוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (וּ) u. “and”

Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish, they bow down in black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

וּשְׁעָרֶ֥יהָ (וּ) u. “and”וְצִוְחַ֥ת (וְ) ve. “and”

And their nobles send their lads for water: they come to the pits, and find no water; their vessels return empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their heads.

וְאַדִּ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְהָכְלְמ֖וּ (וְ) ve. “and”

Yea, the hind also in the field calveth, and forsaketh her young, because there is no grass,

וְעָז֑וֹב (וְ) ve. “and”

And the wild asses stand on the high hills, they gasp for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.

וּפְרָאִים֙ (וּ) u. “and”

O Thou hope of Israel, the Saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest Thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

וּכְאֹרֵ֖חַ (וּ) u. “and”

Why shouldest thou be as a man overcome, as a mighty man that cannot save? Yet Thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and Thy name is called upon us; leave us not.

וְאַתָּ֧ה (וְ) ve. “and”וְשִׁמְךָ֛ (וְ) ve. “and”

Thus saith the LORD unto this people: Even so have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet; therefore the LORD doth not accept them, now will He remember their iniquity, and punish their sins.

וַיהוָה֙ (וַ) va. “and”וְיִפְקֹ֖ד (וְ) ve. “so”

When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt-offering and meal-offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.'

וְכִ֧י (וְ) ve. “even”וּמִנְחָ֖ה (וּ) u. “and”וּבָרָעָ֣ב (וּ) u. “and”וּבַדֶּ֔בֶר (וּ) u. “and”

Then said I: 'Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them: Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.'

וְרָעָ֖ב (וְ) ve. “and”

Then the LORD said unto me: 'The prophets prophesy lies in My name; I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I unto them; they prophesy unto you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their own heart

וְלֹ֣א (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”וְקֶ֤סֶם (וְ) ve. “and”וֶֽאֱלִיל֙ (וֶֽ) ve. “and”וְתַרְמִ֣ית (וְ) ve. “and”

Therefore thus saith the LORD: As for the prophets that prophesy in My name, and I sent them not, yet they say: Sword and famine shall not be in this land, by sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed;

וַאֲנִ֣י (וַ) va. “and”וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ (וְ) ve. “and”וְרָעָ֔ב (וְ) ve. “and”וּבָֽרָעָב֙ (וּ) u. “and”

and the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters; for I will pour their evil upon them.'

וְהָעָ֣ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְהַחֶ֗רֶב (וְ) ve. “and”וְאֵ֤ין (וְ) ve. “and”וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם (וּ) u. “and”וּבְנֹֽתֵיהֶ֑ם (וּ) u. “and”

And thou shalt say this word unto them: Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

וְיוֹמָ֖ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְאַל־ (וְ) ve. “and”

If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest are gone about to a land, and knew it not.

וְהִנֵּה֙ (וְ) ve. “and”וְאִם֙ (וְ) ve. “and”וְהִנֵּ֖ה (וְ) ve. “and”וְלֹ֥א (וְ) ve. “and”

Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Hath Thy soul loathed Zion? Why hast Thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold terror!
