And ye shall be brought near in the morning according to your tribes; and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah taketh shall come forward by families, and the family which Jehovah taketh shall come forward by households; and the household which Jehovah taketh shall come forward man by man.

וְנִקְרַבְתֶּ֥ם (וְ) ve. “and”וְהָיָ֡ה (וְ) ve. “and”

And it shall be, that he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought wickedness in Israel.

וְהָיָה֙ (וְ) ve. “and”

And Joshua rose early in the morning, and caused Israel to come forward by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken.

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם (וַ) va “and”וַיַּקְרֵ֥ב (וַ) va “and”וַיִּלָּכֵ֖ד (וַ) va “and”

And he caused the families of Judah to come forward, and he took the family of the Zarhites. And he caused the family of the Zarhites to come forward man by man, and Zabdi was taken.

וַיַּקְרֵב֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּלְכֹּ֕ד (וַ) va “and”וַיַּקְרֵ֞ב (וַ) va “and”וַיִּלָּכֵ֖ד (וַ) va “and”

And he caused his household to come forward man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

וַיַּקְרֵ֥ב (וַ) va “and”וַיִּלָּכֵ֗ד (וַ) va “and”

And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah the God of Israel, and make confession to him: tell me now what thou hast done, keep it not back from me.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And Achan answered Joshua and said, Indeed I have sinned against Jehovah the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done.

וַיַּ֧עַן (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּאמַ֑ר (וַ) va “and”

I saw among the spoils a beautiful mantle of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a golden bar of fifty shekels weight, and I coveted them and took them; and behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

וָאֵ֣רֶא (וָ) va. “and”וָֽאֶחְמְדֵ֖ם (וָֽ) va. “and”וָֽאֶקָּחֵ֑ם (וָֽ) va. “and”

And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח (וַ) va “and”וַיָּרֻ֖צוּ (וַ) va “and”

And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before Jehovah.

וַיִּקָּחוּם֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיְבִאוּם֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיַּצִּקֻ֖ם (וַ) va “and”

Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the bar of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up into the valley of Achor.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח (וַ) va “and”וַיַּעֲל֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

And Joshua said, How hast thou troubled us! Jehovah will trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וַיִּרְגְּמ֨וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׂרְפ֤וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּסְקְל֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

And they raised over him a great heap of stones, [ergänzt: which is there] to this day. And Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The Valley of Achor, to this day.

וַיָּקִ֨ימוּ (וַ) va “and”וַיָּ֥שָׁב (וַ) va “and”

And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear not, neither be dismayed. Take with thee all the people of war, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And thou shalt do to Ai and to its king as thou didst to Jericho and to its king; only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof shall ye take as prey for yourselves. Set an ambush against the city behind it.

וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ (וְ) ve. “and”

And Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose thirty thousand valiant men, and sent them away by night.

וַיָּ֧קָם (וַ) va “and”וַיִּבְחַ֣ר (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֖ם (וַ) va “and”

And he commanded them, saying, See, ye shall be in ambush against the city, behind the city: go not very far from the city, and be all of you ready.

וַיְצַ֨ו (וַ) va “and”וִהְיִיתֶ֥ם (וִ) vi “and”

And I and all the people that are with me will approach to the city; and it shall come to pass when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.

וְהָיָ֗ה (וְ) ve. “and”וְנַ֖סְנוּ (וְ) ve. “and”

And they will come out after us till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first; and we will flee before them.

וְיָצְא֣וּ (וְ) ve. “and”וְנַ֖סְנוּ (וְ) ve. “and”

And ye shall rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city; and Jehovah your God will deliver it into your hand.

וְהוֹרַשְׁתֶּ֖ם (וְ) ve. “and”וּנְתָנָ֛הּ (וּ) u. “and”

And it shall be when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of Jehovah shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.

וְהָיָ֞ה (וְ) ve. “and”

And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai. And Joshua lodged that night among the people.

וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם (וַ) va “and”וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיֵּשְׁב֗וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיָּ֧לֶן (וַ) va “and”

And Joshua rose early in the morning, and inspected the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם (וַ) va “and”וַיִּפְקֹ֖ד (וַ) va “and”וַיַּ֨עַל (וַ) va “and”

And all the people of war that were with him went up, and drew near, and came before the city; and they encamped on the north of Ai; and the valley was between them and Ai.

וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ (וַֽ) va “and”וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ (וַ) va “and”וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ (וַֽ) va “and”

Now he had taken about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city.

וַיִּקַּ֕ח (וַ) va “and”וַיָּ֨שֶׂם (וַ) va “and”
