And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, so that he fainted; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

וַתַּ֥ךְ (תַּ֥ךְ) Takh “it struck”

Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops; he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

יַכּ֣וּ ya.Ku “they will strike”

Therefore also will I make [ergänzt: thee] sick in smiting thee; I will make [ergänzt: thee] desolate because of thy sins.

הַכּוֹתֶ֑ךָ (הַכּוֹתֶ֑) ha.ko.Te. “[by] striking”

I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands; and ye [ergänzt: turned] not to me, saith Jehovah.

הִכֵּ֨יתִי hi.Kei.ti “I struck”

Behold, the Lord will take possession of her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

וְהִכָּ֥ה (הִכָּ֥ה) hi.Kah “he will strike”

And he shall pass through the sea of affliction, and shall smite the billows in the sea, and all the depths of the Nile shall dry up; and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the sceptre of Egypt shall depart away.

וְהִכָּ֤ה (הִכָּ֤ה) hi.Kah “he will strike”

In that day, saith Jehovah, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness; but I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the peoples with blindness.

אַכֶּ֤ה 'a.Keh “I will strike”אַכֶּ֖ה 'a.Keh “I will strike”

And one shall say unto him, What are those wounds in thy hands? And he will say, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

הֻכֵּ֖יתִי hu.Kei.ti “I was wounded”

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, even against the man [ergänzt: that is] my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered, and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

הַ֤ךְ hakh “strike”

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י (הִכֵּיתִ֥י) hi.kei.Ti “I will strike”
