therefore, behold, I will proceed to do marvellously with this people, to do marvellously, even with wonder, and the wisdom of their wise [ergänzt: men] shall perish, and the understanding of their intelligent ones shall be hid.

לָכֵ֗ן (כֵ֗ן) Khen “therefore”

Therefore thus saith Jehovah who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now be pale;

For Egypt shall help in vain, and to no purpose; therefore have I named her, Arrogance, that doeth nothing.

Therefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: Because ye reject this word, and confide in oppression and wilfulness, and depend thereon,

therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a towering wall, whose breaking shall come suddenly in an instant.

And ye said, No, but we will flee upon horses, -- therefore shall ye flee; and, We will ride upon the swift, -- therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he lift himself up, that he may have mercy upon you; for Jehovah is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

For thus hath Jehovah said unto me: Like as the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, is not afraid of their voice, nor giveth way before the multitude of them; so will Jehovah of hosts come down to war upon mount Zion, and on the hill thereof.

כֵּ֗ן Ken “so”

As birds with outstretched wings, so will Jehovah of hosts cover Jerusalem; covering, he will also deliver, passing over, he will rescue [ergänzt: it].

כֵּ֗ן Ken “so”

Behold, thou reliest upon the staff of that broken reed, upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it goes into his hand, and pierces it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that rely upon him.

כֵּ֚ן ken “[is] thus”

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.

לָכֵ֗ן (כֵ֗ן) Khen “therefore”

I kept still until the morning; ... as a lion, so doth he break all my bones. From day to night thou wilt make an end of me.

כֵּ֥ן ken “so”

Like a swallow [ergänzt: or] a crane, so did I chatter; I mourned as a dove; mine eyes failed [ergänzt: with looking] upward: Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, they that trafficked with thee from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his own quarter; there is none to save thee.

But the Lord Jehovah will help me: therefore shall I not be confounded; therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:

לָכֵ֛ן (כֵ֛ן) Khen “therefore”

Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore [ergänzt: they shall know] in that day that I [ergänzt: am] HE, that saith, Here am I.

As many were astonished at thee -- his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the children of men

כֵּן־ ken- “so”

-- so shall he astonish many nations; kings shall shut their mouths at him: for what had not been told them shall they see, and what they had not heard shall they consider.

Therefore will I assign him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong: because he hath poured out his soul unto death, and was reckoned with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

לָכֵ֞ן (כֵ֞ן) Khen “therefore”

For this is [ergänzt: as] the waters of Noah unto me, since I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth: so have I sworn that I will no more be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.

כֵּ֥ן ken “so”

For [ergänzt: as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

כֵּ֣ן ken “so”

so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall do that which I please, and it shall accomplish that for which I send it.

כֵּ֣ן ken “thus”

Thou wast wearied by the multitude of thy ways; [ergänzt: but] thou saidst not, It is of no avail. Thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not sick [ergänzt: of it].

כֵּ֖ן ken “-fore”

Therefore is justice far from us, and righteousness overtaketh us not: we wait for light, and behold darkness; for brightness, [ergänzt: but] we walk in obscurity.
