But they like Adam have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

בְרִ֑ית ve.Rit “[the] covenant”

[ergänzt: Set] the trumpet to thy mouth. As an eagle [ergänzt: he cometh] against the house of Jehovah, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

בְרִיתִ֔י (בְרִיתִ֔) ve.ri.T “covenant”

They speak [ergänzt: vain] words, swearing falsely in making covenants: therefore judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

בְּרִ֑ית be.Rit “a covenant”

Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

וּבְרִית֙ (בְרִית֙) ve.Rit “a covenant”

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole people to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

בְּרִ֥ית be.Rit “[the] covenant of”

All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee on thy way, even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; [ergänzt: they that eat] thy bread lay a snare under thee: there is no understanding in him.

As for thee also, because of the blood of thy covenant I have set free thy prisoners from the pit wherein is no water.

And I took my staff Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples.

Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because Jehovah hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, though she is thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.
