and they presented at the dedication of this house of God a hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and for a sin-offering for all Israel, twelve he-goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

אֱלָהָ֣א (א) ' “God”

And they set the priests in their classes, and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem: as it is written in the book of Moses.

כָהֲנַיָּ֜א (א) ' “the”וְלֵוָיֵא֙ (א֙) ' “the”אֱלָהָ֖א (א) ' “God”

Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, an accomplished scribe of the law of the God of the heavens, and so forth.

מַלְכַיָּ֑א (א) ' “kings”כָ֠הֲנָא (א) ' “the”דָּתָ֜א (א) ' “the”שְׁמַיָּ֛א (א) ' “the”

I have given orders that all they of the people of Israel, and of their priests and the Levites, in my realm, who are disposed to go to Jerusalem, go with thee.

עַמָּ֨ה (ה) ' “the”וְלֵוָיֵ֗א (א) ' “the”

Because thou art sent by the king, and by his seven counsellors, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thy hand;

מַלְכָּ֜א (א) ' “the”

and to carry the silver and gold which the king and his counsellors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose habitation is at Jerusalem,

מַלְכָּ֣א (א) ' “the”

and all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, besides the voluntary offering of the people, and of the priests, who offer willingly for the house of their God which is at Jerusalem.

עַמָּ֤א (א) ' “the”וְכָֽהֲנַיָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”

Therefore thou shalt buy diligently with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their oblations and their drink-offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is at Jerusalem.

בְּכַסְפָּ֣א (א) ' “the”מַדְבְּחָ֔ה (ה) ' “the”

And whatever shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do according to the will of your God.

כַּסְפָּ֥א (א) ' “the”וְדַהֲבָ֖ה (ה) ' “the”

And the vessels that have been given thee for the service of the house of thy God, deliver before the God of Jerusalem.

וּמָֽאנַיָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”

And whatever more shall be needful for the house of thy God which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure house.

מַלְכָּֽא׃ (א) ' “the”

And I, I Artaxerxes the king, do give orders to all the treasurers that are beyond the river, that whatever Ezra the priest and scribe of the law of the God of the heavens shall require of you, it be done diligently,

מַלְכָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”גִּזַּֽבְרַיָּ֔א (א) ' “the”נַהֲרָ֑ה (ה) ' “the”כָהֲנָ֜ה (ה) ' “the”דָּתָא֙ (א֙) ' “the”שְׁמַיָּ֔א (א) ' “the”

Whatever is commanded by the God of the heavens, let it be carefully done for the house of the God of the heavens; for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

שְׁמַיָּ֔א (א) ' “the”שְׁמַיָּ֑א (א) ' “the”מַלְכָּ֖א (א) ' “the”

Also we inform you, as regards all the priests and Levites, singers, doorkeepers, Nethinim, and ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, tax, and toll upon them.

כָּהֲנַיָּ֣א (א) ' “the”וְ֠לֵוָיֵא (א) ' “the”זַמָּ֨רַיָּ֤א (א) ' “the”תָרָֽעַיָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”נְתִ֣ינַיָּ֔א (א) ' “the”אֱלָהָ֣א (א) ' “God”

And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, which is in thy hand, set magistrates and judges who may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye him that knows [supplied: them] not.

עַמָּה֙ (ה֙) ' “the”נַהֲרָ֔ה (ה) ' “the”

And whosoever will not do the law of thy God and the law of the king, let judgment be executed diligently upon him, whether unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

דָּתָ֣א (א) ' “the”וְדָתָא֙ (א֙) ' “the”מַלְכָּ֔א (א) ' “the”דִּינָ֕ה (ה) ' “judgment”

Thus shall ye say unto them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.

אֱלָ֣הַיָּ֔א (א) ' “the”שְׁמַיָּ֥א (א) ' “the”וְאַרְקָ֖א (א) ' “the”מֵֽאַרְעָ֛א (א) ' “the”שְׁמַיָּ֖א (א) ' “the”

And the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, O king, live for ever! tell thy servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

מַלְכָּא֙ (א֙) ' “O”חֶלְמָ֛א (א) ' “the”וּפִשְׁרָ֥א (א) ' “the”

The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The command is gone forth from me: If ye do not make known unto me the dream, and its interpretation, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

מַלְכָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”מִלְּתָ֖א (א) ' “the”חֶלְמָ֣א (א) ' “the”

But if ye shew the dream and its interpretation, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour; therefore shew me the dream and its interpretation.

חֶלְמָ֤א (א) ' “the”חֶלְמָ֥א (א) ' “the”

They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation.

מַלְכָּ֕א (א) ' “O”חֶלְמָ֛א (א) ' “the”וּפִשְׁרָ֥ה (ה) ' “the”

The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the word is gone forth from me;

מַלְכָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”עִדָּנָ֖א (א) ' “time”מִלְּתָֽא׃ (א) ' “the”

but if ye do not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can shew me its interpretation.

חֶלְמָא֩ (א֩) ' “the”עִדָּנָ֖א (א) ' “the”חֶלְמָא֙ (א֙) ' “the”

The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter; therefore there is no king, however great and powerful, that hath asked such a thing of any scribe, or magician, or Chaldean.

מַלְכָּא֙ (א֙) ' “the”יַבֶּשְׁתָּ֔א (א) ' “the”מַלְכָּ֔א (א) ' “the”

For the thing that the king demandeth is extraordinary, and there is none other that can shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

וּמִלְּתָ֨א (א) ' “the”מַלְכָּ֤ה (ה) ' “the”מַלְכָּ֑א (א) ' “the”בִּשְׂרָ֖א (א) ' “flesh”
