And thou gavest them into the hand of their oppressors, and they oppressed them; and in the time of their distress, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from the heavens, and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their oppressors.

הָֽרַבִּ֗ים (הָֽ) ha. “<the>”

And many years didst thou forbear with them, and testifiedst against them by thy Spirit through thy prophets; but they would not give ear: and thou gavest them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

הָאֲרָצֹֽת׃ (הָ) ha. “the”

Nevertheless for thy manifold mercies' sake, thou didst not make a full end of them nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

הָרַבִּ֛ים (הָ) ha. “<the>”

And now, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and loving-kindness, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the days of the kings of Assyria unto this day.

הָאֵ֨ל (הָ) ha. “<the>”הַגָּד֜וֹל (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַגִּבּ֣וֹר (הַ) ha. “<the>”וְהַנּוֹרָא֮ (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַבְּרִ֣ית (הַ) ha. “of the”וְהַחֶסֶד֒ (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַתְּלָאָ֣ה (הַ) ha. “the”הַיּ֥וֹם (הַ) hai. “the”הַזֶּֽה׃ (הַ) ha. “<the>”

But thou art just in all that is come upon us; for thou hast acted according to truth, and we have done wickedly.

הַבָּ֣א (הַ) ha. “<the>”

And they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land that thou didst set before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.

הָרָ֜ב (הָ) ha. “<the>”הָרְחָבָ֧ה (הָ) ha. “<the>”וְהַשְּׁמֵנָ֛ה (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָרָעִֽים׃ (הָ) ha. “<the>”

Behold, we are servants this day, and the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are bondmen in it.

הַיּ֖וֹם (הַ) hai. “this”וְהָאָ֜רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”

And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, [supplied: and] our priests are at the sealing.

הֶֽחָת֔וּם (הֶֽ) he. “the”

And at the head of those that sealed were Nehemiah the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah, and Zedekiah.

הַחֲתוּמִ֑ים (הַ) ha. “the”הַתִּרְשָׁ֛תָא (הַ) ha. “the”

Maaziah, Bilgai, Shemaiah: these were the priests.

הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃ (הַ) ha. “[were] the”

-- And the Levites: Jeshua the son of Azaniah; Binnui, of the sons of Henadad; Kadmiel,

וְֽהַלְוִיִּ֑ם (הַ) ha “the”

-- The chief of the people: Parosh, Pahath-Moab, Elam, Zatthu, Bani,

הָעָ֑ם (הָ) ha. “the”

And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the doorkeepers, the singers, the Nethinim, and all they that had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the law of God, their wives, their sons and their daughters, every one having knowledge [supplied: and] having understanding,

הָעָ֡ם (הָ) ha. “the”הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים (הַ) ha. “the”הַ֠לְוִיִּם (הַ֠) Ha “the”הַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֨ים (הַ) ha. “the”הַמְשֹׁרְרִ֜ים (הַ) ha “the”הַנְּתִינִ֗ים (הַ) ha. “the”הַנִּבְדָּ֞ל (הַ) ha. “<the>”הָאֲרָצוֹת֙ (הָ) ha. “the”הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (הָ) ha. “<the>”

joined with their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in the law of God, which had been given by Moses the servant of God, and to keep and do all the commandments of Jehovah our Lord, and his ordinances and his statutes;

הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים (הָ) ha. “<the>”הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים (הָֽ) ha. “<the>”

and that we would not give our daughters to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:

הָאָ֑רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”

and that if the peoples of the land brought wares or any grain on the sabbath day to sell, we would not take it of them on the sabbath, or on [supplied: any] holy day; and that we would leave [supplied: the land uncultivated] the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

הָאָ֡רֶץ (הָ) ha. “the”הַֽמְבִיאִים֩ (הַֽ) ha “who”הַמַּקָּח֨וֹת (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַשַּׁבָּת֙ (הַ) ha. “the”הַשָּׁנָ֥ה (הַ) ha. “the”הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖ית (הַ) ha. “<the>”

And we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God,

הַשֶּׁ֖קֶל (הַ) ha. “the”

for the bread to be set in rows, and for the continual oblation, and for the continual burnt-offering, [supplied: for that] of the sabbaths [supplied: and] of the new moons, for the set feasts and for the holy [supplied: things], and for the sin-offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and [supplied: for] all the work of the house of our God.

הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֡כֶת (הַֽ) ha. “the”הַתָּמִ֣יד (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַ֠תָּמִיד (הַ֠) Ha. “<the>”הַשַּׁבָּת֨וֹת (הַ) ha. “the”הֶחֳדָשִׁ֜ים (הֶ) he. “the”

And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood-offering, to bring [supplied: it] into the house of our God, according to our fathers' houses, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of Jehovah our God, as it is written in the law;

וְהַגּוֹרָל֨וֹת (הַ) ha. “the”הָעֵצִ֗ים (הָ) ha. “the”הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים (הַ) ha. “the”הַלְוִיִּם֮ (הַ) ha “the”וְהָעָם֒ (הָ) ha. “the”

and the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, as it is written in the law; and to bring the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests that minister in the house of our God;

הַמְשָׁרְתִ֖ים (הַ) ha “who”

and that we should bring the first-fruits of our coarse meal and our heave-offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, new wine and oil, to the priests, into the chambers of the house of our God, and the tithes of our ground to the Levites, that they, the Levites, should take the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.

הַלְוִיִּ֔ם (הַ) ha “the”הַֽמְעַשְּׂרִ֔ים (הַֽ) ha “[are] the”

And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes; and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, into the chambers of the treasure-house.

הַכֹּהֵ֧ן (הַ) ha. “the”הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (הַ) ha “the”הַלְוִיִּ֑ם (הַ) ha “the”וְהַלְוִיִּ֞ם (הַ) ha “the”הַֽמַּעֲשֵׂר֙ (הַֽ) ha. “the”הַלְּשָׁכ֖וֹת (הַ) ha. “the”הָאוֹצָֽר׃ (הָ) ha. “the”

For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the heave-offering of the corn, of the new wine and the oil, into the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the doorkeepers and the singers. And we will not forsake the house of our God.

הַ֠לְּשָׁכוֹת (הַ֠) Ha. “the”הַלֵּוִ֗י (הַ) ha. “the”הַדָּגָן֮ (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַתִּיר֣וֹשׁ (הַ) ha. “the”וְהַיִּצְהָר֒ (הַ) hai. “the”הַמִּקְדָּ֔שׁ (הַ) ha. “the”וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ (הַ) ha. “the”הַמְשָׁ֣רְתִ֔ים (הַ) ha “who”וְהַשּׁוֹעֲרִ֖ים (הַ) ha. “the”וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִ֑ים (הַ) ha “the”

And the princes of the people dwelt in Jerusalem; and the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the holy city, and nine parts in the cities.

הָעָ֖ם (הָ) ha. “the”הָ֠עָם (הָ֠) Ha. “the”הָעֲשָׂרָ֗ה (הָ) ha. “the”הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ (הַ) ha. “<the>”הַיָּד֖וֹת (הַ) hai. “the”

And the people blessed all the men that willingly offered themselves to dwell in Jerusalem.

הָעָ֑ם (הָ) ha. “the”הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים (הָֽ) ha. “the”הַמִּֽתְנַדְּבִ֔ים (הַ) ha. “who”
