For there fell down many slain, for the war was of God. And they dwelt in their stead until the captivity.

וַיֵּשְׁב֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

וַיִּֽמְעֲל֔וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּזְנ֗וּ (וַ) va “and”

And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-Pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, -- unto this day.

וַיָּעַר֩ (וַ) va “and”וַיַּגְלֵם֙ (וַ) va “and”וַ֠יְבִיאֵם (וַ֠) Va “and”

and Azariah begot Amariah, and Amariah begot Ahitub,

וַיּ֥וֹלֶד (וַ) va “and”

And they ministered before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting with singing, until Solomon had built the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem; and they attended to their office according to their order.

וַיִּהְי֨וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיַּעַמְד֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

and they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs round about it;

וַֽיִּתְּנ֥וּ (וַֽ) va “and”

And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs.

וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which were mentioned by name.

וַיִּתְּנ֣וּ (וַ) va “and”

And to the families of the children of Kohath who had the cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim,

וַיְהִי֙ (וַ) va “and”

they gave the city of refuge, Shechem and its suburbs in mount Ephraim; and Gezer and its suburbs,

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ (וַ) va “and”

And Machir took a wife [supplied: the sister] of Huppim and Shuppim, and the name of their sister was Maachah. And the name of the second [supplied: son] was Zelophehad; and Zelophehad had daughters.

וַתִּהְיֶ֥נָה (וַ) va. “and”

And Maachah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she called his name Peresh; and the name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

וַתֵּ֨לֶד (וַ) va. “and”וַתִּקְרָ֤א (וַ) va. “and”

And the sons of Shemidah were Ahian, and Shechem, and Likhi, and Aniam.

וַיִּהְי֖וּ (וַ) va “and”

and Zabad his son, and Shuthelah his son, and Ezer, and Elad. And the men of Gath born in the land slew them, because they came down to take their cattle.

וַהֲרָג֗וּם (וַ) va. “and”

And Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brethren came to comfort him.

וַיִּתְאַבֵּ֛ל (וַ) va “and”וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ (וַ) va “and”

And he went in to his wife; and she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Beriah, for [supplied: he was born] when calamity was in his house.

וַיָּבֹא֙ (וַ) va “and”וַתַּ֖הַר (וַ) va. “and”וַתֵּ֣לֶד (וַ) va. “and”וַיִּקְרָ֤א (וַ) va “and”

And his daughter was Sheerah; and she built Beth-horon the nether, and the upper, and Uzzen-sheerah.

וַתִּ֧בֶן (וַ) va. “and”

And Bela had sons: Addar, and Gera, and Abihud,

וַיִּהְי֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

-- And these are the sons of Ehud (these were the chief fathers of the inhabitants of Geba; and they carried them away to Manahath;

וַיַּגְל֖וּם (וַ) va “and”

And he begot of Hodesh his wife: Jobab, and Zibia, and Mesha, and Malcham,

וַיּ֖וֹלֶד (וַ) va “and”

And the sons of Ulam were mighty men of valour, archers; and they had many sons, and sons' sons, a hundred and fifty. All these were of the sons of Benjamin.

וַֽיִּהְי֣וּ (וַֽ) va “and”

For in their trust these four were the chief doorkeepers: they were Levites; and they were over the chambers and over the treasuries of the house of God;

וְהָיוּ֙ (וְ) ve. “and”

And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

וַיָּ֑נָס (וַ) va “and”וַיִּפְּל֥וּ (וַ) va “and”

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.

וַיַּדְבְּק֣וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיַּכּ֣וּ (וַ) va “and”

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him, and he was terrified by the archers.

וַתִּכְבַּ֤ד (וַ) va. “and”וַיִּמְצָאֻ֖הוּ (וַ) va “and”וַיָּ֖חֶל (וַ) va “and”
