And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח (וַ) va “and”וַיְבִיאֵ֖ם (וַ) va “and”

And when Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,

וַיִּשְׁמַ֕ע (וַ) va “and”

then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him--because he had fought against Hadadezer and smitten him; for Hadadezer had wars with Toi--and he brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח (וַ) va “and”וַיַּכֵּ֔הוּ (וַ) va “and”

And David got him a name when he returned from smiting the Arameans in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men.

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ (וַ) va “and”

And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the LORD gave victory to David whithersoever he went.

וַיָּ֨שֶׂם (וַ) va “and”וַיְהִ֥י (וַ) va “and”וַיּ֤וֹשַׁע (וַ) va “and”

And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness unto all his people.

וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ (וַ) va “and”וַיְהִ֣י (וַ) va “and”

And David said: 'Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?'

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

Now there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him: 'Art thou Ziba?' And he said: 'Thy servant is he.'

וַיִּקְרְאוּ־ (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֥אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And the king said: 'Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him?' And Ziba said unto the king: 'Jonathan hath yet a son, who is lame on his feet.'

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And the king said unto him: 'Where is he?' And Ziba said unto the king: 'Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.'

וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח (וַ) va “and”וַיִּקָּחֵ֗הוּ (וַ) va “and”

And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came unto David, and fell on his face, and prostrated himself. And David said: 'Mephibosheth!' And he answered: 'Behold thy servant!'

וַ֠יָּבֹא (וַ֠) Va “and”וַיִּפֹּ֥ל (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And David said unto him: 'Fear not; for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.'

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ (וַ) va “and”וַהֲשִׁבֹתִ֣י (וַ) va. “and”

And he bowed down, and said: 'What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?'

וַיִּשְׁתַּ֕חוּ (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֖אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him: 'All that pertained to Saul and to all his house have I given unto thy master's son.

וַיִּקְרָ֣א (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And thou shalt till the land for him, thou, and thy sons, and thy servants; and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have bread to eat; but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread continually at my table.' Now Ziba had fifteen

וְעָבַ֣דְתָּ (וְ) ve. “and”וְהֵבֵ֗אתָ (וְ) ve. “and”וְהָיָ֨ה (וְ) ve. “and”וַאֲכָל֔וֹ (וַ) va. “and”

Then said Ziba unto the king: 'According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do; but Mephibosheth eateth at my table as one of the king's sons.'

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

וַֽיְהִי֙ (וַֽ) va “and”וַיָּ֕מָת (וַ) va “and”וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ (וַ) va “and”

And David said: 'I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me.' So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח (וַ) va “and”וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ (וַ) va “and”

But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overth

וַיֹּאמְרוּ֩ (וַ) va “and”

So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

וַיִּקַּ֨ח (וַ) va “and”וַיְגַלַּח֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּכְרֹ֧ת (וַ) va “and”וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃ (וַֽ) Va “and”

When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'

וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח (וַ) va “and”וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (וַ) va “and”וְשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃ (וְ) ve. “and”

And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob, and the Arameans of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob

וַיִּרְאוּ֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁלְח֣וּ (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׂכְּרוּ֩ (וַ) va “and”

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע (וַ) va “and”וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ (וַ) va “and”

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate; and the Arameans of Zobah, and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ (וַ) va “and”וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ (וַ) va “and”
