On that day did king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' oppressor to Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.

מַ֥ה mah “what?”

And the king said to Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the fortress, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? And what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee; and what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

Therefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore, according to all the words of this letter, and for what they had seen concerning this matter and what had happened to them,

וּמָֽה־ (מָֽה) mah- “whatever”וּמָ֥ה (מָ֥ה) Mah “whatever”

Wherefore did I not die from the womb, -- come forth from the belly and expire?

לָ֤מָּה (מָּה) mah “why?”

Why did the knees meet me? and wherefore the breasts, that I should suck?

וּמַה־ (מַה) ma.ho.Sha- “why?”

Wherefore is light given to him that is in trouble, and life to those bitter of soul,

לָ֤מָּה (מָּה) mah “why?”

What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should have patience?

מַה־ mah- “what?”וּמַה־ (מַה) mah- “what?”

Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

וּמַה־ (מַה) ma.ho.Sha- “what?”

How forcible are right words! but what doth your upbraiding reprove?

מַה־ mah- “how!”וּמַה־ (מַה) mah- “what?”

What is man, that thou makest much of him? and that thou settest thy heart upon him?

מָֽה־ mah- “what?”

How long wilt thou not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?

כַּ֭מָּה (מָּה) mah “long?”

Have I sinned, what do I unto thee, thou Observer of men? Why hast thou set me as an object of assault for thee, so that I am become a burden to myself?

מָ֤ה mah “what?”לָ֤מָה (מָה) mah “why?”

And why dost not thou forgive my transgression and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I lie down in the dust, and thou shalt seek me early, and I shall not be.

וּמֶ֤ה׀ (מֶ֤ה) Meh “why?”

Of a truth I know it is so; but how can man be just with God?

וּמַה־ (מַה) mah- “what?”

Behold, he taketh away: who will hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?

מַֽה־ mah- “what?”

Be it that I am wicked, why then do I labour in vain?

לָמָּה־ (מָּה) mah- “why?”

I will say unto +God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou strivest with me.

מַה־ mah- “what?”

And wherefore didst thou bring me forth out of the womb? I had expired, and no eye had seen me.

וְלָ֣מָּה (מָּה) mah “why?”

[supplied: It is as] the heights of heaven; what wilt thou do? deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know?

מַה־ mah- “what?”מַה־ mah- “what?”

Hold your peace from me, and I will speak, and let come on me what [supplied: will]!

מָֽה׃ Mah “whatever”

Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand?

מָ֤ה׀ mah “what?”

How many are mine iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

כַּמָּ֣ה (מָּ֣ה) Mah “many?”

Wherefore dost thou hide thy face, and countest me for thine enemy?

לָֽמָּה־ (מָּה) mah- “why?”

What knowest thou that we know not? [supplied: what] understandest thou which is not in us?

מַה־ mah- “what?”

Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?
